Slave Narrative Pre-Post

When asked what to expect for the Slave Narratives I think of a very long, unbearable, frustrating, terribly cruel story. However, I also think it will be more along the lines of a detailed description of the cruelty, torture, and pain that the slave dealt with. It may also talk about the freedom that the slaves finally got, or a time of where the slave tried to escape. Nevertheless, I think it will be a very powerful story. I think in class Mr. Wasserman described some of them as boring, however I can’t really imagine any being boring because it is such a huge event in our history that needs to be understood more by our generation. Slavery is very broad, but interesting topic to me, I feel like in some ways it is not talked about as much as it should be because it is the less highly looked upon event in our history. I’ve learned a lot about slavery in the past years, but not as much as specific people other than Harriet Tubman and Frederick Douglas and a few others. I have learned more about more recent black history around the 1950’s. I think it will be neat to find out what others have to say about slavery.
